The Classic Scramble Club can trace its history back to 1989, when several Waitemata MCC mates got together and ran a meeting at Scott's Farm Waitoki. At that time many old machines were rusting in sheds and there were no real opportunities for the older bikes to be ridden.
At about this time, vintage motocross ( the word “scrambles” is actually more correct, as “motocross” wasn’t really used in NZ until the later 1970’s ) in the USA was gaining in popularity. Australia had also taken up the challenge of catering for the older bikes, so the time was right for New Zealand to do the same. Initially called “Greybeards Scrambles”, there was a surprising amount of interest, and with extensive promotion in Kiwi Rider Magazine the club quickly grew in numbers. Initially, the club catered for 2 classes, pre 1969, and pre 1975 but Evo classes have since been added. For more info on the club go to http://classicvmx.wordpress.com/
